Story walks highlight ecology themes around BV’s town lake
A project headed by the Buena Vista Public Library brings ecology-themed stories and education to the social trail that loops around the town lake at McPhelemy Park.
The installment features 22 posts and frames for “pages” of a progressive story that enfolds as visitors walk on the path around the lake. The content of the signs changes with the seasons.
The collaborative effort involved local students from high schoolers to preschoolers, the town recreation department and community volunteers. Common Ground supported the project with a mini-grant.
“It’s been amazing, watching it all come together,” said Beth Volpe, library youth services coordinator at the library when the story walk opened. “Just as BV’s community always does, people stepped up and helped out and made it a reality. It’s great to be part of this community, where investment in our kids is so high.”
